Have you found mold in your home? Or are you interested in preventing mold from growing in high humidity areas in the home or bathroom? Chemical cleaners contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and are not safe for enclosed areas such as inside your home. Try these natural remedies instead to keep your home mold free!

Reminder: never try and treat an area bigger than 3x3 yourself.

  • Hydrogen Peroxide

Use 3% hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and spray directly onto the affected area. Let it sit for 10 minutes and scrub with a brush and then wipe with a papertowel to remove the spores. Discard the paper towels into an outside garbage can. Make sure to use a dark bottle as light makes it less effective.

  • Baking soda

Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it to the area with mold. Let it dry and wipe it away. You can also make a preventative spray with baking soda and water. Mix 1 tsp of baking soda with water in a spray bottle. Spray the area and let dry.

  • Vinegar

Spray vinegar direclty onto the surface and allow it to sit for an hour. Scrub with a brush and then wipe down with a papertowel. Remember to discard the papertowel into an outside garbage can. Vinegar can be left on surfaces to prevent mold growth.

  • Tea Tree Oil Spray

Mix one teaspoon of Tea Tree Oil in a cup of water and increase the quantity ratio from there. Spray the solution onto the mold spores and leave it to dry. Tea tree oil does has a strong scent, but it will dissapate after a day or 2.

  • Grapefruit Seed Extract Spray

Dilute 20 drops of Grapefruit seed extract with 2 cups of water, mix in a spray bottle and spray onto the mold. Let it dry.
